Believe it or not, the pic above is what you should hope for at the end of a 16-20 week controlled mass phase (bulk). This is a pic of me in my 2026 off-season on my last day of my mass phase. In this pic I am 232 lbs at 5’11.5” tall. This is and was my best possible outcome having added over 6+lbs of stage condition weight.
You must be in a caloric surplus to build new muscle tissue optimally. This does not mean it’s time to eat more pizza and burgers and junk food it up contrary to popular belief. A proper bulk should be strictly controlled. You want to maximize muscle while limiting fat accrual. It’s that simple.
Ideally the person will be 10% body fat or a skinny guy. To do a proper bulk you need to have room to grow. If you are already 20-25% body fat, which the average American male is your wasting your time and more than likely just going to gain more fat. Sure you might gain some muscle but if you intend to see it one day you’d likely lose it in your extended deficit to get lean.
Fellas, I get it. Like a lot of you out there was a “power lifter “ through my 20’s. I was undoubtably strong and It felt great to be the big guy. But, the dopamine and ego boost you received for a second or two when someone acknowledges your big pales in comparison to being as big as you can be lean. As I have gotten older (40’s) things change and health markers will tell on you. How can I workout my whole life and my bloodwork progressively get worse off?Answer: dirty bulking and not doing cardio
