The Best Home Gym Leg Press / Hack Squat

RITFIT leg press machine in a gym.

RITFIT

I train exclusively in my home gym. The photo above was taken there, and believe it or not, I’ve never stepped foot in a commercial gym—not even once.

I’ve had a small gym in my basement for over 20 years, and it’s where I’ve built my physique.

About five years ago, I started searching for a leg press/hack squat combo that was affordable, didn’t take up a ton of space, and could still handle some serious weight. After comparing just about every option out there, I chose the RITFIT.

Full disclosure: I’m now a RITFIT affiliate. I wasn’t when I bought this machine—I paid full price just like anyone else. The reason I wanted to become an affiliate is simple: I genuinely believe in this product. I’ve put it through years of heavy training, and it has exceeded my expectations.

Competitive Bodybuilder Who Doesn’t Squat?

Before purchasing this machine, I always relied on a power rack for back squats. But as I’ve gotten older, that became more and more difficult because of two old back injuries from years of squatting that left me with two bulging discs.

Since switching to this unit, I haven’t aggravated either injury. That’s been a game changer for me.

So, for those who ask whether you can build an impressive set of legs without back squats, my answer is absolutely. Squats are a great exercise, but they’re not the only way to build muscle.

If you’ve ever dealt with a bulging or slipped disc, you know exactly what I’m talking about. That tingling pain shooting down your leg is something you don’t forget. Finding exercises that let you train hard without aggravating old injuries can make all the difference.

Specifications

Coming in at just $799.99 when I purchased it, the RITFIT BLP01 was the perfect fit for my home gym. It gave me the functionality I wanted without taking up a huge amount of space or costing thousands of dollars like many commercial-grade units.

Despite its compact footprint, it’s built to handle serious training. The BLP01 has a 1,200-pound weight capacity, three safety locking positions, and an adjustable footplate that allows you to change your foot position to emphasize different areas of your legs. Whether you want to focus more on your quads, glutes, or hamstrings, it’s easy to adjust.

One of my favorite design features is how compact it is. The machine measures just 76.6 inches long by 40.6 inches wide, and because the weight plates load underneath the carriage instead of sticking out the sides, it takes up far less floor space than most leg press/hack squat combos. That’s a huge advantage if you train in a garage, basement, or spare bedroom like I do.

For anyone looking to maximize their training without sacrificing valuable gym space, I think the BLP01 offers an outstanding combination of performance, durability, and value.

A Home Gym Game Changer

This is an exceptional piece of equipment, especially for the price.

When it comes to buying home gym equipment, I always look at four things: cost, space, durability, and longevity. A machine can have all the bells and whistles in the world, but if it doesn’t hold up over years of hard training or fit your available space, it’s not worth the investment.

I’ve trained on this unit twice a week for the past five years, and I can honestly say I have zero complaints. It has held up extremely well, operates just as smoothly as it did when it was new, and has required virtually no maintenance.

Another thing I appreciate is that it’s not just built for larger lifters. My wife, who is 5’2”, and my daughter, who is 5’3”, both use it comfortably and love it as well. The adjustable design makes it easy to accommodate different body sizes while still providing a solid, stable lifting experience.

After five years of consistent use by my entire family, I can confidently say this machine has been one of the best investments I’ve made for my home gym.

See For Yourself

But don’t just take my word for it. Do your homework. Compare what’s available on the market and see if you can find another machine in this price range that offers the same compact footprint, features, and proven durability. That’s exactly what I did before making my decision, and five years later, I’d make the same choice again.

More importantly, don’t let age become an excuse to stop training your legs—or your body. Too many people spend their time talking about what they used to do.

Why not start creating new stories instead?

Whether you choose this machine or another brand, the most important thing is that you keep pursuing your goals. And if you don’t have any goals right now, set some. Give yourself something to work toward. Never stop challenging yourself, because that’s how we continue to grow.

We’re not just getting older—we’re getting better.
